About the show
The World Premiere of Autobiography by Company Wayne McGregor at Sadler’s Wells.
Autobiography is the intriguing new show from Company Wayne McGregor. In creating this striking piece of dance, choreographer Wayne McGregor allowed scientists to sequence his entire genome. The results of the research inspired a work that questions how we understand and explain an individual’s life.
As the title suggests, Company Wayne McGregor’s latest offering is a deeply personal affair. Pieces of memoir from McGregor’s own life are included in the story line. However, by focusing on the scientific mapping of his life, Autobiography also seeks to understand the connection between all humans and their ancestors.
Headed by the visionary choreographer McGregor, Company Wayne McGregor is one of the most exciting outfits producing dance in the UK. The group is a Resident Company at Sadler’s Wells, and McGregor is a Resident Choreographer at the Royal Ballet.
Company Wayne McGregor is based at an innovative new studio space in East London. The company’s previous work includes the celebrated Tree Of Codes, which is based on the book of the same name by Jonathan Safran Foer.
With more and more people turning to DNA testing to better understand their ancestry, Autobiography is a timely and distinctly modern work of dance. Based on their previous run of successes, if there’s one choreographer capable of combining science, art and history, it’s McGregor.
Autobiography runs at Sadler’s Wells from 4 – 7 October 2017.
