About the show
See the brand new musical by Steven Sater and Burt Bacharach, Some Lovers, at The Other Palace.
As part of the From Page To Stage Festival, The Other Palace presents Some Lovers. The Tony and Grammy Award-winning Steven Sater (book and lyrics for Spring Awakening), and legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach came together to create this heartwarming new musical. Some Lovers is the first time Bacharach has written music for the stage since his 1968 musical Promises, Promises. His score is arranged by Jonathan Tunick.
Some Lovers is, as the title suggests, an old fashioned love story. It’s a valentine’s message to the city of New York and a meeting between past lives and the present. Four performers play two characters whose lives transform across a 20-year period. But above all, Some Lovers is about the art of gift giving.
The creators of the musical have taken inspiration from The Gift Of The Magi by O. Henry. The short story was first published in 1905. It tells of how a young couple battle financial woes to find each other the perfect Christmas gift.
Aria Entertainment’s From Page To Stage festival also features staged readings, showcases of new musicals and concerts. Events include a new musical version of the much-loved book and TV series The Queen’s Nose, and two new productions for children, Chicken Little and DinoStory.
The festival is part of The Other Palace’s commitment to being a testing ground for new works of musical theatre.
Some Lovers runs from 24 August – 2 September 2017 at The Other Palace.
