About the show
Go green with the West End transfer of The Toxic Avenger musical at the Arts Theatre.
Southwark Playhouse’s sold-out musical hit The Toxic Avenger transfers to the intimate Arts Theatre for a strictly limited 10-week season.
Tromaville is a place with a problem. A radioactive problem. Yet the corrupt mayor and her followers have no intention of clearing it up. Even more than that, they want to stop anyone who thinks they can.
Melvin Ferd the Third might not seem like your average hero. But when the lovable geek gets thrown into a tub of toxic waste, he transforms into a glorious green hulk with city-saving ambitions.
The Toxic Avenger is part eco-friendly comic book and part glowing love story. While Melvin sets out to clean up, he also has one eye on Sarah – the prettiest librarian in New Jersey.
Mark Anderson leads the cast as Melvin, a role he previously played at Southwark Playhouse. Natalie Hope, Emma Salvo, Oscar Conlon-Morrey and Che Francis complete the cast.
Lloyd Kaufman’s 1984 film is the inspiration for the rock musical that Joe DiPietro and David Bryan created. The Tony Award-winning team also worked together on the Broadway and West End hit Memphis. When not writing musicals, Bryan plays keyboard for iconic rock group Bon Jovi.
Benji Sperring directs The Toxic Avenger, which was awarded five starts by the Daily Telegraph during its Southwark Playhouse run. The Stage awarded it four and describe it as ‘a madcap treat’. Time Out also went for four, stating that it’s ‘a nuclear meltdown of arse-kicking choruses and eco-savvy bodily dismemberment.’ What more could you want?
The show’s songs include Who Will Save New Jersey? Get The Geek, Thank God She’s Blind, Hot Toxic Love and Choose Me, Oprah!
The Toxic Avenger runs at the Arts Theatre from 28 September – 3 December 2017.
