About the show
Amanda Holden leads an all-star cast in Stepping Out at the Vaudeville Theatre.
Richard Harris’s award-winning comedy, Stepping Out, arrives in the West End for a run at the Vaudeville Theatre. Stepping Out is the charming story of seven women and one man trying to take control of their lives through a weekly dance class. As they prepare for a charity gala, we learn about their individual lives and the stories they have to share.
The stunning cast list will surely be the big draw for this production of Stepping Out. Top of the roster is Amanda Holden. Aside from being a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, Holden is also an accomplished actress on screen and stage. For her 2004 appearance in Thoroughly Modern Millie, she earned an Olivier Award nomination.
Natalie Casey, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Tamzin Outhwaite and Nicola Stephenson join Holden in the show. Between them they’ve covered pretty much every television soap going. Casey was in Hollyoaks, Oberman and Outhwaite were in EastEnders, and Stephenson starred in Brookside and Emmerdale. Their stage credits are similarly impressive, with a collection of West End performances in everything from One Man, Two Guvnors to War Horse.
Tamzin Outhwaite has had to temporarily withdraw from the production due to a stress fracture of her foot. During the first week of performances Katie Verner will play the role of Mavis. From the second week, West End regular and sister of co-star Natalie, Anna-Jane Casey will play the part.
Maria Friedman directs the big-hearted play. Until making her directorial debut in 2012, Friedman was most famous as a star of the stage. As a performer, she won three Olivier Awards for her appearances in musical theatre shows. More recently, though, she directed a five-star production of Merrily We Roll Along at London’s Menier Chocolate Factory.
Created by the writer of A Touch Of Frost and The Darling Buds Of May, Stepping Out is a good old British comedy with the potential to pull in the punters for as long as it’s in the West End.
Stepping Out runs at the Vaudeville Theatre from 1 March – 17 June 2017.
