About the show
Natalie Dormer and David Oakes star in Venus In Fur at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
David Ives’ passionate drama, Venus In Fur, makes its West End debut. Nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play, the dark comedy takes its inspiration from the famous 1870 novel Venus In Furs by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. Patrick Marber directs this new production.
Natalie Dormer plays Vanda Jordan, an entrancing actress determined to land a part in a new play. Despite being highly unsuitable for the role, Jordan captivates the director, Thomas Novachek (David Oakes). An evening’s meeting sees the power dynamic subtly shift until it is Jordan, not Novachek, directing proceedings.
Dormer is best known as Margaery Tyrell in HBO’s smash hit series Game Of Thrones. She also appeared in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 and The Tudors. Dormer and Marber reunite for Venus In Fur. The actress previously appeared in the lead role of Marber’s After Miss Julie at the Young Vic.
Oakes previously starred on the London stage in Shakespeare In Love at the Noël Coward Theatre. He also appeared in Pride And Prejudice at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. He is, however, best known for his appearance in the television series The Borgias. Oakes also recently played Prince Ernest in ITV’s historical drama Victoria.
Marber is an award-winning playwright and director. He most recently directed his own show Don Juan In Soho, starring David Tennant, in London’s West End. Shortly before that, Ivo van Hove directed Marber’s version of Hedda Gabler at the National Theatre.
Suitable for ages 14 and over.
Venus In Fur runs at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 6 October – 9 December 2017.
