What you need to know about The Other Palace:
The Other Palace launched in February 2017. Before that, it was called the St James Theatre. The venue is dedicated to musical theatre, with an emphasis on helping new works to develop and find an audience.
The theatre has two playing spaces: the main theatre, which seats 312, and the studio theatre, which seats 120. They also use the bar area for open mic nights and other small-scale performances. During the day, creatives and performers use the studio theatre as a rehearsal and development space.
Really Useful Theatre Group, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s company, owns The Other Palace.
Paul Taylor Mills is the Artistic Director.
Top facts about The Other Palace:
- The theatre stands on the site of the Westminster Theatre. Following fire damage, the old building was knocked down in 2002.
- Michael John LaChiusa’s The Wild Party, a musical based in the raucous world of Prohibition-era America, was the show that opened The Other Palace.
- As part of its commitment to new work, The Other Palace included the From Page To Stage festival in its first season.
Key information about The Other Palace:
Tube: Victoria (Victoria, District and Circle lines) is the closest tube station. It is a five minute walk from the venue.
Train: The closest train station is Victoria (Gatwick Express, Southern, Southeastern and Thameslink trains), which is a five minute walk from the venue.
Bus: Bus numbers 16, 38, 52, 73, 82, 42 and also 148 all travel close to the theatre. To plan your journey in more detail, please visit the Transport for London website.
Parking: The nearest multi-storey car part is the Q-Park car park at Horseferry Road. There is also limited metered parking on the roads close to the theatre. The Other Palace advises that because they are close to Buckingham Palace, the roads near the theatre are often closed. Please check carefully before travelling.
The Other Palace is fully wheelchair accessible, including access to the main theatre and the studio theatre, The Other Naughty Piglet and the bar.
Wheelchair spaces are available in both auditoria.
A Sennheisser infra-red hearing system operates in the main house. Headphones and necklace loops are available at the venue.

The Other Palace is home to The Other Naughty Piglet. The trendy restaurant serves a selection of small plates and natural wines. Make sure you book in advance if you want to enjoy pre-theatre dining, as it does tend to book up quickly.
If you’re just looking for a drink, the theatre has two bars. The main bar is open from 10am each day and serves sustainable coffee, wine, beer and champagne. London brewery Meantime supplies the beer. There is also a studio bar that opens 30 minutes before performances start, offering drinks and light refreshments to ticket holders seeing a show in the studio theatre.
