About the show
Boylesque is back with Briefs: Close Encounters at London’s Underbelly.
Summer is the season for stripping off. Nobody knows this better than all-male burlesque troop Briefs. Since 2013, the glitter-loving group who coined the term boylesque have entertained London crowds with sell-out season after sell-out season. And for 2017, they offer something a little bit special: a brand new show.
In Close Encounters, the crazily talented circus performers bring intergalactic insanity down to earth. It’s going to be extra-terrestrial like you’ve never seen it before. Forget ET’s glowing finger, Briefs have got space-age strippers and better aerial abilities than a NASA spaceship.
If you enjoyed their previous shows, then you might well want to see what they do with this new one. Spreading their wings in a slightly different fashion, the Brisbane-based boys are forgoing the glitzy party vibe for something that’s darker than dark matter. Or a black hole. Perhaps.
But forgetting silly space puns, the main deal with Briefs is that this team are seriously skilled. They won six awards plus a nomination for Best One-Off Production at the London Cabaret Awards 2012 for their previous show Briefs: The Second Coming (yes, it was called that).
Briefs: Close Encounters is led by Shivannah (Fex Faanana), who will oversee proceedings. Other performers include the turbo-athletic Captain Kidd, cabaret and live art specialist Harry Clayton-Wright and Thomas Worrell, who won’t let anything keep him down – including gravity.
As Time Out says, “No one else does enormous, gloriously perverted fun quite like this.”
Suitable for ages 16 and over.
Briefs: Close Encounters runs from 14 July – 30 September 2017 at Underbelly.
