About the show
Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales creep into the Unicorn Theatre for a very special Christmas treat.
Fans of Philip Pullman, one of the nation’s best-loved children’s authors, are in for a treat this winter. The His Dark Materials author’s Grimm Tales are coming to the Unicorn Theatre. The re-imainged fairytales put more than a few dramatic twists on the classic stories of the Brothers Grimm while retaining the deliciously sinister edge of the originals.
Enter the deep dark forest and explore the magical and mythical world contained within. Bringing together Philip Pullman’s personal favourite fairytales, this Christmastime show gives audiences all the familiar faces of the story book world (witches, wandering children and powerful forest dwellers) but shines a truly new and brilliantly illuminating light on them.
Philip Pullman is best-known as the author of His Dark Materials trilogy, the books featuring Lyra Belacqua and her epic journey to the Arctic. Penguin first published his reworking of the Grimm fairytales in 2012.
Philip Wilson has adapted Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales for the stage, while Kirsty Housley directs the production.
The Unicorn Theatre schedules a superb variety of extra activities and workshops alongside their programmed shows throughout the year. This Christmas offering is no different. Ticketholders cam also book in for one of their Gingerbread House Workshops running throughout December. You can find out more details, including booking, on their website.
Suitable for audience members aged 8 and older, all the way up to adults.
Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales runs from 13 November 2018 – 6 January 2019 at the Unicorn Theatre.
