About the show
A feel-good musical with a Greek island setting and upbeat ABBA songs, Mamma Mia! is the sunshine show of the West End.
The very name of this musical is enough to get you singing. That’s before the show even begins. Hitting the London stage in 1999, Mamma Mia! is still one of the city’s hottest tickets, an uplifting musical featuring hit songs from Swedish supergroup ABBA.
Set on a Greek island paradise, this is the tale of a young woman, Sophie, who wants her father to walk her down the aisle for her impended marriage. The only trouble is, she’s not quite sure who he is!
As three possible father figures arrive for the wedding, a tale of love, laughter and friendship unfolds, liberally peppered with sunshine and some of ABBA’s greatest hits.
Seen by more than 60 million people across the world, the show was adapted for the silver screen in the 2008 film of the same name. The Mamma Mia! film cast featured Meryl Streep and also Amanda Seyfried. Since then the show has only grown in popularity, attracting a whole new audience of Mamma Mia! devotees and making it one of London’s most popular shows.
