About the show
Take to the streets of Rome with Julius Caesar at the brand new Bridge Theatre.
London’s newest venue, Bridge Theatre, presents a striking promenade production of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. With Ben Whishaw as Brutus and Michelle Fairley as Cassius, this promises to be one of the new year’s most exciting theatre tickets.
Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar sees the popular ruler return to Rome to a hero’s welcome. The streets are filled with chanting crowds, but not everyone is happy. The elite circle surrounding Caesar decide his power is too much. They stage a coup and brutally murder him. With Caesar dead, civil war breaks out and soon tragedy mounts on tragedy.
Whishaw is a stage and screen star best known as Bond’s Q and also as the voice of Paddington Bear. Fairley, who plays Catelyn Stark in Game Of Thrones, recently appeared in the Royal Court production of Road. David Calder joins them in the role of Caesar, while David Morrissey plays Mark Anthony.
Nicholas Hytner directs Julius Caesar. Previously the Director of the National Theatre, he is now Artistic Director of Bridge Theatre. Hytner also directs the opening play of Bridge Theatre’s first season, a new work by Richard Bean titled Young Marx.
Hytner’s production of Julius Caesar places the audience amid the frenetic action. With seating or promenading options available, you can be part of the street celebrations, the murderous ensemble and the frantic protesters.
Bridge Theatre will open its doors in October 2017. Led by Hytner and Nick Starr, the 900 seat venue has a particular commitment to staging new plays. Located near London’s Tower Bridge, this new theatre is well worth checking out.
Please note: performances contain flashing lights and gun shots.
Julius Caesar runs from 20 January – 15 April 2018 at Bridge Theatre.
