About the show

Catch Natasha Gordon’s smash hit debut play Nine Night on its West End transfer at Trafalgar Studios.

Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre, Natasha Gordon’s critically acclaimed debut play Nine Night heads into the West End. It runs at Trafalgar Studios throughout both December and January.

Originally premiering in the National’s Dorfman Theatre, Nine Night is an exuberantly funny and moving work centred on the Jamaican mourning tradition.

Gloria is dying.  When her time comes, her children and grandchildren gather for nine nights of celebration to mark her death. Nine nights of music, food, memories and mourning…

Natasha Gordon is a London-born actress and writer of Jamaican descent. As a performer, her stage credits include Red Velvet at the Tricycle Theatre (now the Kiln Theatre), The Low Road and Clubland at the Royal Court, Mules at the Young Vic, and also As You Like It at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Nine Night is her debut play, which she developed at the National Theatre Studio.

Roy Alexander Weise directs Nine Night. Weise is one of the hottest directors working in Britain today. He was a trainee director at the Royal Court. There, he assisted on the theatre’s productions of Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen, Caryl Churchill’s Escaped Alone and also Alistair McDowall’s X.

In 2016, he won the prestigious JMK Young Director Award. He previously directed a sell-out staging of Katori Hall’s Olivier Award-winning The Mountaintop at the Young Vic and the extremely popular UK premiere of Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm’s Br’er Cotton at Theatre503.

Casting is yet to be announced.

Nine Night runs from 1 December 2018 – 9 February 2019 at Trafalgar Studios.
