About the show
Terror is unleashed onto the Phoenix Theatre with West End premiere of The Exorcist.
William Peter Blatty’s mega hit horror story The Exorcist makes its London stage debut with a strictly limited season starting 20 October 2017 at Phoenix Theatre. If you enjoy being chilled to the core, John Peilmeier’s stage adaptation is the show for you.
When young Regan becomes ill, her mother Chris will do anything to find out what is wrong and make her better. Events take more than one terrifying turn when Chris calls in the local priest. Before he can help Regan, Father Damien has to battle with his own crumbling beliefs.
Jenny Seagrove leads the cast of The Exorcist, playing Chris. Peter Bowles plays Father Lankester Merrin, while Adam Garcia plays Father Damien Karras. Clare Louise Connolly, Todd Boyce, Mitchell Mullen, Elliot Harper and Tristram Wymark complete the show’s ‘physical’ cast. There is one other cast member – the voice of the Demon is provided by… Sir Ian McKellen!
Sean Mathias directs this The Exorcist play. The veteran director’s acclaimed production of No Man’s Land was revived for a hugely successful run starring McKellen and Patrick Stewart at Wyndham’s Theatre in 2016. His other career highlights include a production of Beckett’s Waiting For Godot also starring McKellen and Stewart.
Olivier Award winner Anna Fleischle provides the production’s design. Magician Ben Hart creates the show’s many blood-curdling illusions.
Readers first encountered The Exorcist as a book in 1971. It became notorious as one of the most terrifying stories of all time. William Friedkin’s Oscar-winning film secured its status as one of the most iconic works of the horror genre. Forty-five years after publication, it remains a classic.
