About the show
Kathy Burke directs new comedy The Retreat at North London’s Park Theatre.
From the co-writer of the hit TV series Peep Show comes new comedy play The Retreat. Written by Sam Bain, the light-hearted tale of escapism and sibling rivalry receives its world premiere at Park Theatre from 2 November 2017.
Luke needs a little space and some fresh air. A former high flying city exec, he takes a break to a remote stone hut half way up a mountain in the Scottish Highlands.
Tranquillity and meditation practice are disrupted when Luke gets an uninvited visitor – his brother Tony. Either Tony is exactly the unhappy reminder of his former life that Luke doesn’t need, or he’s the only person who can actually see into his soul. As the days pass by, Tony’s presence helps question Luke’s commitment to the retreat. Is this attempt at spirituality just another form of addiction?
Adam Deacon, winner of the BAFTA Rising Star Award, plays Tony. Deacon previously appeared in films including Kidulthood and Adulthood.
Samuel Anderson plays Luke. One of the original stars of hit Alan Bennett show The History Boys, Anderson recently played Danny Pink in Doctor Who.
Yasmine Akram completes the cast as Tara. Her TV credits include Asylum, Stella and also Undercover.
Bain co-created nine series of Peep Show with Jesse Armstrong. Starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, it is the longest running comedy in the history of Channel 4. It won a host of awards including a BAFTA. The writers also worked together on Fresh Meat.
Kathy Burke directs The Retreat. The actor, director and writer has appeared on screen in Absolutely Fabulous, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and, of course, Harry Enfield And Chums. Her directing credits include Betty at the Vaudeville Theatre and also Kosher Harry at the Royal Court.
Suitable for ages 14 and over.
The Retreat runs from 2 November – 2 December 2017 at Park Theatre.
